Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The smuggler's conference by John Gilbert was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 312.50 (€ 215.99). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Gilbert achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The marriage of Katherine and Petruchio: The Taming of the Shrew in November 2012 with an auction result of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,159.49).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The smuggler's conference von John Gilbert im Oktober 2007 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 312,50 (€ 215,99) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Gilbert erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The marriage of Katherine and Petruchio: The Taming of the Shrew im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.000,00 (€ 6.159,49).
