In October 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work The Death of Sir Philip Sidney by David Wilkie for USD 18,900.00 (€ 16,360.80). This price was achieved in the auction Collector, Dealer, Connoisseur: The Vision of Richard L. Feigen at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Wilkie achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Spanish Girl in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 363,650.00 (€ 522,024.96).
