Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Santi di Tito achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2014. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work The Agony In The Garden sold for USD 56,250.00 (€ 41,666.67) - well above the upper estimate of USD 25,000.00. Admittedly, works by Santi di Tito have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a black embroidered silk doublet and cloak, with a ruff, holding gloves and a letter in his left hand, a lute on the table in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 158,500.00 (€ 224,699.76).
