Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Wisdom and the Fiend; a young lady three-quarter length in loose white dress revealing her left breast, holding a sword in her right hand, gold crown in her long brown hair; a monster grasping snakes appearing in the clouds by Samuel Shelley was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2003. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,151.00 (€ 3,046.61) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Samuel Shelley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result o

Die Arbeit Wisdom and the Fiend; a young lady three-quarter length in loose white dress revealing her left breast, holding a sword in her right hand, gold crown in her long brown hair; a monster grasping snakes appearing in the clouds von Samuel Shelley kam im Dezember 2003 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 2.151,00 (€ 3.046,61) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
