The work Portraits Of Thomas Ludbey (1735-1819) And His Wife, Jane Ludbey, Née Evans (1763-1841) by Samuel Shelley was sold in the Important Miniatures from a Private Collection auction at Sothebys in London in April 2008. The auction ended at the price of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,374.29), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Samuel Shelley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,615.67)

Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 5.000,00 (€ 6.374,29) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00.
