Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2004 Christies in London held the auction At Home - Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu, Irish, Scot, which included the work A young officer, facing right in a blue coat with scarlet facings and gold braid, powdered wig en queue (cracked) by Samuel Shelley. The price achieved of GBP 215.10 (€ 309.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 150.00 – 250.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Shelley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,615.67
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 16.450 (€ 26.616).
