Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2003 Christies in London held the auction Important Gold Boxes,Objects of Vertu & Portrait Miniatures, which included the work A young gentleman, in blue coat with gold buttons, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue by Samuel Shelley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,538.84), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Shelley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,615.67
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 16.450,00 (€ 26.615,67).
