Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2004 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Westward Ho: Study for Ships of the Plains by Samuel Colman. The »bidding war« ended at USD 41,825.00 (€ 30,894.52), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Colman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Becalmed in the Highlands in November 2007 with an auction result of USD 505,000.00 (€ 343,818.08).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Dezember 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit Westward Ho: Study for Ships of the Plains von Samuel Colman zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 41.825,00 (€ 30.894,52) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Samuel Colman erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Becalmed in the Highlands im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 505.000,00 (€ 343.818,08).
