Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Hayfield (Conway Meadow, New Hampshire) by Samuel Colman was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 18,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at USD 87,500.00 (€ 74,978.58). Admittedly, works by Samuel Colman have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Becalmed in the Highlands in November 2007 with an auction result of USD 505,000.00 (€ 343,818.08).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Hayfield (Conway Meadow, New Hampshire) von Samuel Colman im Mai 2018 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 18.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 87.500,00 (€ 74.978,58) mehr als viermal so hoch. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Samuel Colman auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Becalmed in the Highlands im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 505.000,00 (€ 343.818,08).
