This artwork by Samuel Atkins achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in November 2020. In the The Marine Sale auction, the work Dutch merchant boats on an estuary with Dutch naval craft in the distance sold for GBP 3,570.00 (€ 3,985.32) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Samuel Atkins; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated) sold at auction in November 2010 with the realized price of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
