The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,187.50 (€ 3,632.71), 59% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Samuel Atkins; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated) sold at auction in November 2010 with the realized price of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
