Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Samuel Atkins could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July 2011 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Drawings Including Property from the Descendants of Walter Brandt auction, the work Two Views Of Shipping Off The Isle Of Wight changed hands for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,869.12) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Other works by Samuel Atkins have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in November 2010 by the work The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated) at GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
