Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Samuel Atkins could be acquired at Christies in London in July last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 auction, the work Figures embarking from a quay changed hands for GBP 700.00 (€ 835.92) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by Samuel Atkins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated) in November 2010 with an auction result of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
