Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An East Indiaman off the Eddystone Lighthouse by Samuel Atkins was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in April this year. The price achieved of GBP 1,530.00 (€ 1,743.70) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Atkins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated), which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
