Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2000 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work The sailing ship Bankall off Malta; and The sailing ship Victoria off Malta by Salvatore Colacicco. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,393.80), 18% above the upper estimate. Other works by Salvatore Colacicco have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,100.74) in May 2010 for the work The American ships Ontario and Liberty both depicted off Naples (one illustrated).
