This artwork by Salvatore Colacicco achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2010. In the Maritime Art auction, the work America's Cup yachts Magic and Glory racing in New York Harbour; and The America's Cup yacht Madeleine racing in the Mediterranean (one illustrated) sold for GBP 3,375.00 (€ 3,954.28) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Salvatore Colacicco; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The American ships Ontario and Liberty both depicted off Naples (one illustrated) sold at auction in May 2010 with the realized price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,100.74).
