Signed, with two seals of the artist
Two collectors’ seals
Inscriptions by Liu Baiying and Tao Qianqiu on the mounting, dated winter, dinghai year (1947) and with two seals, dedicated to Weijia (2)
NOTE:
Wu Weijia, of Macance descent, owner of Taixing Bank, came from a well-to-do family an was an avid collector, Wu was particularly fond of Lingnan artists.

Artwork auctioned at ten times the upper estimate price
The work Calligraphic Couplet In Clerical Script by Ruan Yuan was worth HKD 400,000.00 (€ 48,854.38) to a buyer in November 2015. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 40,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ruan Yuan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Nine-character Couplet in Running Script, which sold at auction in May 2013 for HKD 1,350,000.00 (€ 133,877.43).

Die Arbeit Calligraphic Couplet In Clerical Script von Ruan Yuan war einem Käufer im November 2015 HKD 400.000,00 (€ 48.854,38) wert. Dieser Preise wurde in der Auktion Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy bei Christies in Hong Kong erzielt und übertraf den zuvor angesetzten oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 40.000,00 um ein Vielfaches. Für andere Arbeiten von Ruan Yuan mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Nine-character Couplet in Running Script beobachtet, die im Mai 2013 für HKD 1.350.000,00 (€ 133.877,43) versteigert wurde.
