Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Ronald Searle achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in March 2018. In the The Political Cartoon Collection of Jeffrey Archer auction, the work ‘Art: The British Public Knowing What It Likes...' (Consequences Of Putting Mr Graham Sutherland’S Latest Portrait On Public Exhibition) sold for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 15,655.13) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Ronald Searle; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot 'Back To School' sold at auction in June 2011 with the realized price of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 27,657.85).

(Consequences Of Putting Mr Graham Sutherland’S Latest Portrait On Public Exhibition) für GBP 13.750,00 (€ 15.655,13) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 6.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Ronald Searle; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit 'Back To School' im Juni 2011 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 25.000,00 (€ 27.657,85).
