In November 2007 Christies in London held the auction Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes, which included the work Tsar Alexander II of Russia (1818-1881), in black uniform with silver-embroidered red collar and silver epaulettes, wearing the blue moiré sash and breast-star of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Andrew by Robert Theer. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 7,500.00 (€ 10,501.94), 25% above the upper estimate. With this result, Tsar Alexander II of Russia (1818-1881), in black uniform with silver-embroidered red collar and silver epaulettes, wearing the blue moiré sash and breast-star of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Andrew is even the most expensive work of art by Robert Theer that we have observed at auctions so far.
