Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Robert Sargent Austin could be acquired at Bonhams in New York in September this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Prints & Photographs | Bonhams Skinner auction, the work Mid-day Rest changed hands for USD 166.40 (€ 157.22) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 250.00 – 350.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Sargent Austin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work a collection of etchings comprising: The Bride; The Curtain; The Lace-Seller; Evening; Café Scene; Sea Bouquet; Munich and At Prayer, on wove and laid papers, each signed in pencil, with margins, all apparently in good condition, three framed in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 1,320.00 (€ 1,948.73).
