In January 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Prints And Decoys, which included the work The Superb Lily, from The Temple of Flora by Robert John Thornton. The »bidding war« ended at USD 5,250.00 (€ 3,537.50), 17% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert John Thornton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Temple of Flora: six plates, which sold at auction in January 2011 for USD 16,250.00 (€ 11,848.34).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Januar 2008 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Prints And Decoys durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Superb Lily, from The Temple of Flora von Robert John Thornton zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 5.250,00 (€ 3.537,50) und damit 17% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Robert John Thornton mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Temple of Flora: six plates beobachtet, die im Januar 2011 für USD 16.250,00 (€ 11.848,34) versteigert wurde.
