In June 2004 Christies in New York held the auction THE DORIS DUKE COLLECTION, which included the work Temple of Flora: The White Lily by Robert John Thornton. The »bidding war« ended at USD 3,107.00 (€ 2,551.11), 55% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Robert John Thornton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Temple of Flora: six plates in January 2011 with an auction result of USD 16,250.00 (€ 11,848.34).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 55 % übertroffen
Im Juni 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion THE DORIS DUKE COLLECTION durch, in der auch die Arbeit Temple of Flora: The White Lily von Robert John Thornton zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 3.107,00 (€ 2.551,11) und damit 55% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Robert John Thornton auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Temple of Flora: six plates im Januar 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 16.250,00 (€ 11.848,34).
