Upper estimate price exceeded by 30 %.
In April 2006 Christies in London held the auction Silver and Plate, Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu and Icons, which included the work Catherine Osbaldeston (née Pennington), in lilac-coloured dress with powdered hair upswept by Richard Crosse. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 780.00 (€ 1,125.76), 30% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Crosse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of John Crosse (1721-1776), The Artist'S Father, Circa 1770 in December 2019 with an auction result of GBP 52,500.00 (€ 62,048.86).
