RICHARD AVEDON (1923–2004) Suzy Parker, Evening dress by Dior, Paris studio, August, 1959 gelatin silver print, flush-mounted on linen, printed 1981 signed and numbered '11/25' in pencil, stamped photographer's copyright credit, title, date, and edition information (flush mount, verso) image/sheet/flush-mount: 40 x 32 1 ⁄ 2 in. (101.6 x 82.5 cm.) This work is number eleven from an edition of twenty-five.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In October this year Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Suzy Parker, Evening dress by Dior, Paris studio, August, 1959 by Richard Avedon. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 32,760.00 (€ 30,999.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Avedon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Beatles Portfolio: John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney, London in November last year with an auction result of GBP 809,000.00 (€ 937,446.28).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit Suzy Parker, Evening dress by Dior, Paris studio, August, 1959 von Richard Avedon zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 32.760,00 (€ 30.999,24) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Richard Avedon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Beatles Portfolio: John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney, London im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 809.000,00 (€ 937.446,28).
