Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled (Skulls with Fingers and Eyelash) by Ray Johnson was auctioned at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,840.00 (€ 3,520.35). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ray Johnson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Comb in March 2021 with an auction result of GBP 47,500.00 (€ 55,800.26).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Untitled (Skulls with Fingers and Eyelash) von Ray Johnson im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 3.840,00 (€ 3.520,35) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ray Johnson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Comb im März 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 47.500,00 (€ 55.800,26).
