In June 2010 Sothebys in London held the auction 19th Century European Paintings Including German, Austrian and Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and the Scandinavian Sale, which included the work Spanish san Lorenzo Del Escorial by Rafael Durancamps. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 30,000.00 (€ 36,482.79), 67% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Rafael Durancamps; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Capea sold at auction in October 2006 with the realized price of EUR 50,400.00.
