Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Group portrait of the Hon. Arthur Saunders Gore, Viscount Sudley, later 2nd Earl of Arran (1734-1809), and his wife Catherine, née Annesley (1739-1770), with their son (?), Arthur Saunders Gore, later 3rd Earl of Arran (1761-1837), as Cupid, three-quar by Pompeo Batoni was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2018. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 300,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 320,750.00 (€ 359,631.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pompeo Batoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Susanna And The Elders in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 11,394,500.00 (€ 8,712,057.50).
