Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Waterfalls At Tivoli With Figures Resting And Hunting by Pierre-Jacques Volaire was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2011. The price achieved of GBP 67,250.00 (€ 80,541.37) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pierre-Jacques Volaire - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vesuvius erupting at night seen from the foothills, with elegant onlookers, a view of the Bay of Naples beyond, which sold at auction in July 2005 for GBP 142,400.00 (€ 206,549.86).
