Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Betty, portrait of Miss Elizabeth Cary Elwes by Philip Wilson Steer was sold in the British and European Art auction at Christies in London in December 2021. The price achieved of GBP 15,000.00 (€ 17,891.85) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Philip Wilson Steer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tired Out in May 2014 with an auction result of GBP 674,500.00 (€ 828,982.26).
