Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dutch charity In The Night Market by Petrus van Schendel was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in December 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,573.99) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Petrus van Schendel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch the Market Place, Rotterdam in May 2015 with an auction result of GBP 449,000.00 (€ 624,287.25).
