Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Moonlit Vegetable Market On De Grote Markt, The Hague by Petrus van Schendel was sold in the European Paintings, Drawings & Sculptures auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,190.00 (€ 7,031.85) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Petrus van Schendel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch the Market Place, Rotterdam in May 2015 with an auction result of GBP 449,000.00 (€ 624,287.25).
