Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Gingerbread Seller By Candlelight by Petrus van Schendel was sold in the 19th Century European Art auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2019. The price achieved of USD 47,500.00 (€ 42,604.72) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Petrus van Schendel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch the Market Place, Rotterdam in May 2015 with an auction result of GBP 449,000.00 (€ 624,287.25).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 47.500,00 (€ 42.604,72) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Petrus van Schendel erzielen.
