Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A gentleman, facing left in red velvet coat and white cravat, full bottomed powdered wig: and a gentleman, facing right in red-lined brown cloak, tied jabot, full bottomed long powdered wig, (English School, circa 1720) by Peter Paul Lens was sold in the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction at Christies in London in November 2000. The price achieved of GBP 446.50 (€ 729.79) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Peter Paul Lens achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A young gentleman wearing a black tricorn hat adorned with plumes, full face in silver-bordered red coat with slashed sleeves and silver frogging; purple curtain background in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 14,100.00 (€ 23,045.89).
