Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Kyoto Chrysanthemum by Pat Steir was auctioned at Phillips in London in January 2024, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 762.00 (€ 1,275.33). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pat Steir achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Elective Affinity Waterfall in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 2,295,000.00 (€ 1,966,580.98).
