Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman by Nathaniel Hone the Elder was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 42,000.00 (€ 61,805.84) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Nathaniel Hone the Elder have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Double portrait of Lieutenant-General the Hon. Philip Sherard and Captain William Tiffin, at the Battle of Brücke-Mühle, 21 September 1762, the former full-length in the uniform of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, the latter three-quarter-length, c in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 294,500.00 (€
