Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction THE IRISH SALE, which included the work A young gentleman, facing right in gold-bordered blue velvet coat and waistcoat, lace cravat and black stock, hair en queue by Nathaniel Hone the Elder. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 1,553.50 (€ 2,330.82). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nathaniel Hone the Elder achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Double portrait of Lieutenant-General the Hon. Philip Sherard and Captain William Tiffin, at the Battle of Brücke-Mühle, 21 September 1762, the former full-length in the uniform of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, the latter three-quarter-length, c in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 294,500.00 (€
Philip Sherard and Captain William Tiffin, at the Battle of Brücke-Mühle, 21 September 1762, the former full-length in the uniform of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, the latter three-quarter-length, c im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 294.500,00 (€ 374.616,87).
