Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Goat by Morris Graves was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 9,375.00 (€ 8,273.03). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Morris Graves achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bird Singing in the Moonlight in November 2003 with an auction result of USD 141,900.00 (€ 118,299.29).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Goat von Morris Graves im Oktober 2018 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 9.375,00 (€ 8.273,03) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Morris Graves erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Bird Singing in the Moonlight im November 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 141.900,00 (€ 118.299,29).
