MIKE DISFARMER (1884-1959) Heber Springs, Arkansas, c. 1940-1950 eight gelatin silver prints one stamped photographer's studio credit in ink (verso); one print annotated in ink (recto); others variously annotated and numbered in pencil (versos) each image approximately: 5 x 3 in. (12.7 X 7.6 cm.) each sheet approximately: 5 1 ⁄ 2 x 3 1 ⁄ 2 in. (13.9 x 8.8 cm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Heber Springs, Arkansas, c. 1940-1950 by Mike Disfarmer was auctioned at Christies in London in October this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 13,860.00 (€ 13,115.06). Other works by Mike Disfarmer have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in June 2021 by the work Two Pals with Cigarettes at GBP 12,750.00 (€ 14,857.06).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Heber Springs, Arkansas, c. 1940-1950 von Mike Disfarmer im Oktober diesen Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 13.860,00 (€ 13.115,06) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von Mike Disfarmer wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Juni 2021 die Arbeit Two Pals with Cigarettes mit GBP 12.750,00 (€ 14.857,06).
