In January 2007 Sothebys in New York held the auction Important Old Master Paintings and European Works of Art, which included the work An Interior With A Young Girl, Seated At A Table Covered With An Indian Carpet And Reading A Letter, Attended By A Negro Page by Michiel van Musscher. The price achieved of USD 456,000.00 (€ 350,823.20) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, An Interior With A Young Girl, Seated At A Table Covered With An Indian Carpet And Reading A Letter, Attended By A Negro Page is the most expensive artwork by Michiel van Musscher that we have observed at auctions so far.
