This artwork by Michiel van Mierevelt achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2013. In the Old Masters and 19th Century Art auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Bust-Length, In A Black Costume With A White Lace Collar sold for EUR 11,250.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Michiel van Mierevelt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Jan van der Haer (1609-1665), half-length, in a black silk doublet with cutwork, edged with black lace; and Portrait of Levina Ockers (1607-1678), half-length, in a black dress with a double layered lace-trimmed ruff and jewelled collar in May 2014 with an auction result of EUR 79,500.00.
