Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Man, Half-Length by Michiel van Mierevelt was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 12,000.00 – 16,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,225.86) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Michiel van Mierevelt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Jan van der Haer (1609-1665), half-length, in a black silk doublet with cutwork, edged with black lace; and Portrait of Levina Ockers (1607-1678), half-length, in a black dress with a double layered lace-trimmed ruff and jewelled collar in May 2014 with an auction result of EUR 79,500.00.
