This artwork by Mervyn Peake achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2005. In the 20th Century British Art auction, the work Portrait of A Pirate sold for GBP 2,760.00 (€ 4,074.63) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mervyn Peake - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The red room, which sold at auction in April 2019 for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 15,995.22).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 84 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Mervyn Peake erzielte im Mai 2005 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion 20th Century British Art wurde die Arbeit Portrait of A Pirate für GBP 2.760,00 (€ 4.074,63) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.500,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Mervyn Peake mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The red room beobachtet, die im April 2019 für GBP 13.750,00 (€ 15.995,22) versteigert wurde.
