Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Mattia Preti could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master to Master: The Nelson Shanks Collection auction, the work Saint John the Baptist Admonishing Herod changed hands for USD 685,500.00 (€ 611,398.50) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mattia Preti - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work David Playing The Harp Before Saul, which sold at auction in January 2008 for USD 2,169,000.00 (€ 1,461,491.81).
