In November 2021 Phillips in Hong Kong held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in Association with Poly Auction, which included the work Nature’s Church by Matthew Wong. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 9,204,000.00 (€ 1,023,391.51), 53% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Matthew Wong have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Night Watcher in May last year with an auction result of USD 5,897,150.00 (€ 5,495,433.79).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 53 % übertroffen
Im November 2021 führte Phillips in Hong Kong die Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in Association with Poly Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit Nature’s Church von Matthew Wong zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 9.204.000,00 (€ 1.023.391,51) und damit 53% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Matthew Wong auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Night Watcher im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.897.150,00 (€ 5.495.433,79).
