This artwork by Martin Johnson Heade achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2019. In the American Art auction, the work Two Ruby Throats By Their Nest sold for USD 212,500.00 (€ 192,848.72) - well above the upper estimate of USD 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Martin Johnson Heade achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Great Florida Sunset in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,850,000.00 (€ 5,538,723.73).
