In the 19th Century American & Western Art auction, the work Cattleya Orchid with Two Brazilian Hummingbirds sold for USD 3,438,000.00 (€ 3,004,719.45) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,800,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Martin Johnson Heade; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Great Florida Sunset sold at auction in November 2015 with the realized price of USD 5,850,000.00 (€ 5,538,723.73).
