This work is being considered for inclusion in the forthcoming Mark Rothko Online Resource and Catalogue Raisonné of works on paper, compiled by the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In November this year Christies in London held the auction 20th Century Evening Sale, which included the work Untitled (Red, Orange on Pink) by Mark Rothko. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 6,500,000.00 – 8,500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 6,584,000.00 (€ 6,035,936.93) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mark Rothko achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work No. 10 in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 81,925,000.00 (€ 74,517,918.86).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November diesen Jahres führte Christies in London die Auktion 20th Century Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Untitled (Red, Orange on Pink) von Mark Rothko zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.500.000,00 – 8.500.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 6.584.000,00 (€ 6.035.936,93) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Mark Rothko erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit No. 10 im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 81.925.000,00 (€ 74.517.918,86).
