Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Evening Auction, which included the work Blue Over Red by Mark Rothko. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 25,000,000.00 – 35,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 26,461,000.00 (€ 24,013,975.86) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mark Rothko - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work No. 10, which sold at auction in May 2015 for USD 81,925,000.00 (€ 74,517,918.86).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2019 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Contemporary Art Evening Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit Blue Over Red von Mark Rothko zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000.000,00 – 35.000.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 26.461.000,00 (€ 24.013.975,86) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Mark Rothko mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit No. 10 beobachtet, die im Mai 2015 für USD 81.925.000,00 (€ 74.517.918,86) versteigert wurde.
