Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Twenty-four moths, in three columns, mostly belonging to the family NOCTUIDAE, but including four spectacular URANIIDAE (Lyssa 11,12, and Alcides 17,18) Thirty moths, in three columns, all members of the huge family NOCTUIDAE Sixty-seven moths, arr by Marian Ellis Rowan was sold in the Exploration and Travel auction at Christies in London in September 2008. The price achieved of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,434.24) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Marian Ellis Rowan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Decorated Screen with Wildflowers, c.1880, which sold at auction in November 2021 for AUD 59,040.00 (€ 52,307.96).
