Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Domestic Symphony, 1919 by Margaret Watkins was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at USD 57,600.00 (€ 43,537.41). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Margaret Watkins; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Domestic Symphony, c. 1920 sold at auction in October 2018 with the realized price of USD 50,000.00 (€ 44,122.84).
Kunstwerk zum Achtfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Domestic Symphony, 1919 von Margaret Watkins im Februar 2007 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 7.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 57.600,00 (€ 43.537,41) mehr als achtmal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Margaret Watkins; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Domestic Symphony, c. 1920 im Oktober 2018 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 50.000,00 (€ 44.122,84).
